Newham Additional and Selective Licensing Consultation - 9 November 2021 to 26 January 2022

Tuesday, November 9, 2021 - Newham Council

Newham Additional and Selective Licensing Consultation 2021

Date: Tuesday 9 November 2021 to Wednesday 26 January 2022

About: Newham Council has launched a consultation on plans to implement new additional and selective licensing schemes.

In the London Borough of Newham, Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) need to be licensed under mandatory HMO and additional licensing schemes. There is also a selective licensing scheme that operates borough wide, except for the E20 postcode. The current additional and selective licensing schemes end in late 2022 / early 2023.

Before making a decision, the council wants to hear from private tenants landlords, Newham residents, businesses and anyone in the surrounding areas.

The proposals

Newham Council is proposing a new additional licensing scheme would extend licensing to all Houses in Multiple Occupation throughout the borough.

Newham Council is also proposing a selective licensing scheme covering all council wards except for Royal Victoria and Stratford Olympic Park. All properties in the designated area that are privately rented to single households (or two sharers) will need to be licensed.

The intention is that both licensing schemes would run for a period of 5 years from 2023.

You can find out more about the proposed licensing scheme and take part in the consultation here. The consultation closes on 26 January 2022.
