Consultation

Lambeth Selective Licensing Consultation – 11 December 2023 to 4 March 2024

Monday, December 11th, 2023 - Lambeth Council

Date: Monday 11 December 2023 to Monday 4 March 2024

About: Lambeth Council has launched a consultation on plans to implement a new selective licensing scheme.

In Lambeth, Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) need to be licensed if they are occupied by five or more people and fall within the mandatory HMO licensing scheme. All other HMOs need to be licensed under an additional licensing scheme.

The council are consulting on plans to implement selective licensing in two phases covering a large part of the borough.

Before making a decision, the council wants to hear from tenants, landlords, residents, businesses and anyone with an interest in the area who may be affected by the proposed scheme.

Proposed selective licensing scheme – phase one

Lambeth Council is proposing a selective licensing scheme covering the council wards of:

  • Knights Hill
  • Streatham Common & Vale
  • Streatham Hill East
  • Streatham St. Leonards

Within these four wards, all private rented accommodation occupied by a single household or two unrelated sharers, would need to be licensed.

Proposed selective licensing scheme – phase two

Lambeth Council is proposing a selective licensing scheme covering the council wards of:

  • Brixton Acre Lane
  • Brixton North
  • Brixton Rush Common
  • Brixton Windrush
  • Clapham Common and Abbeville
  • Clapham East
  • Clapham Park
  • Clapham Town
  • Gipsy Hill
  • Herne Hill and Loughborough Junction
  • Kennington
  • Myatts Field
  • Oval
  • St Martin’s
  • Stockwell East
  • Stockwell West and Larkhall
  • Streatham Hill West and Thornton Ward
  • Streatham Wells
  • West Dulwich

Within these nineteen wards, all private rented accommodation occupied by a single household or two unrelated sharers, would need to be licensed.

The intention is that both schemes would run for a period of 5 years.
