Redbridge Council’s first selective licensing scheme has ended

Thursday, July 28, 2022 - London Property Licensing

What's next for property licensing in Redbridge?

A selective licensing scheme that was introduced in the London Borough of Redbridge on 13 July 2017 has ended after five years.

The selective licensing scheme had extended licensing to all private rented properties in the council wards of Clementswood and Valentines in the south of the borough. Whilst the scheme has ended, licences issued under the old scheme remain in force until the expiry date printed on the licence.

A second selective licensing scheme covering the council wards of Goodmayes, Loxford, Snaresbrook, Roding (Churchfields), Newbury, Mayfield, Cranbrook, Seven Kings, Chadwell, Fairlop, Aldborough and Church End remains in force. That scheme was introduced in 2018 and continues until 30 September 2023.

Additional licensing in Redbridge

As previously reported by London Property Licensing (read here), the council’s borough wide additional licensing scheme ended on 12 April 2022.

A public consultation on proposals to renew the additional licensing scheme took place from 13 December 2021 to 7 March 2022 (read here).

Next steps

Earlier this month (July 2022), Redbridge Council wrote to landlords and agents about their property licensing schemes. The council explained they are currently reviewing the success of the expired licensing schemes and will be holding further public consultations on proposed scheme renewal later in the year.

With new additional and selective licensing schemes requiring a scheme designation to be made at least three months before the scheme starts, it seems unlikely any new licensing schemes will be implemented before 2023.
