Brent Selective Licensing Scheme started on 1 April 2024

About: A new selective licensing scheme came into force in the London Borough of Brent on 1 April 2024 with the effect that the whole of Brent is subject to selective licensing except for one ward, Wembley Park.
The new selective licensing scheme covers the eighteen council wards of:
- Alperton
- Barnhill
- Brondesbury Park
- Cricklewood & Mapesbury
- Kenton
- Kilburn
- Kingsbury
- Northwick Park
- Preston
- Queens Park
- Queensbury
- Roundwood
- Stonebridge
- Sudbury
- Tokyngton
- Welsh Harp
- Wembley Central
- Wembley Hill
Within this area, a licence application must be submitted for all private rented properties occupied by a single household or two unrelated sharers.
Existing selective licensing scheme
There is also a selective licensing scheme covering the council wards of Dollis Hill, Willesden Green and Harlesden & Kensal Green which started on 1 August 2023.

HMO licensing
Houses in multiple occupation (HMOs) are already covered by separate licensing schemes. They need to be licensed under Brent Council’s mandatory HMO and additional licensing schemes that extend borough wide.
How can I apply?
Brent Council have an online licence application system which you can access via the Council’s website.
To accompany your licence application, you need to provide:
- A Gas Safety Certificate (if gas is supplied to the property).
We understand Brent Council do not require a floorplan for selective licence applications which makes the process somewhat easier.
How much will a selective licence application cost?
There is a fixed fee of £640 per property. There is a £40 discount per property application for landlords who are accredited to London Landlords Accreditation Scheme. Full details of the fees are available on the Council’s website.
